At 72,000 square feet, it is the largest DMV office in Nevada. It will handle both regular and commercial driver's license services and will have more counters, five outdoor walk-up kiosks and two drive-thru kiosks for use after hours.

No new office will replace the Henderson location, which sat at American Pacific Drive and Stephanie Street. The new office is about 10 miles away.

Why the offices closed

DMV officials said the older buildings could not keep up with population growth, and that renovating or staffing both sites would cost more than consolidating them in one place.

Until the new office opens, the DMV is urging customers to use its online services or kiosks, and to book appointments at other branches if they need to be seen in person.
